Description
The gasoline-powered 420 cc OHV 4-stroke engine is the heart of the Ryobi RY906500S. It has a 120V/240V output and a running power of 6,500W and a peak power of 8,125W. The generator is 72 dBA loud, which is just a little louder than a shower. It has Ryobi’s EasyStart pull-start system (more information below ). The RY906500S can run for about 10 hours at 0.5 load on a full tank of 6 gallons of fuel (fuel consumption is approximately 0.6 GPH).
Outlets
Two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplex outlets and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle are on the control panel. The RY906500S has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, which means it is ready for a transfer switch. It can power your home during a power outage because it is easy to connect to your breaker box.
Features
The status and activity of the RY906500S can be easily checked on the control panel, which has a meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. From a safety point of view, the product has an automatic shut-off for low oil and an overload protection (circuit breaker), so you can use it without worrying. It also has a sensor for carbon monoxide. This sensor is meant to measure the amount of carbon monoxide in the air while the generator is running. If the generator isn’t set up right and the level of carbon monoxide gets too high, the red LED on the sensor will flash and the generator will turn off by itself. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The Ryobi RY906500S comes with basic instructions and an owner’s manual to help you start the generator quickly. It also comes with a tool kit and oil, among other things.
Mobility
The Ryobi RY906500S has a typical open frame that is 39 inches long, 29 inches wide, and 24.5 inches high. This gives it support and stability and gives you the option of raising it above ground level. The design shown is great for the outdoors and other rough places. Even though this device is technically portable (meaning it can be moved), it weighs 195 pounds and can be hard to move and use without special tools. It is hard to move around, but its wheel kit (dia:10) makes it possible “Once it’s on the floor, it will be easier to move because of the handle that folds down.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Originally located in Japan, Ryobi Limited is a firm that has mostly specialized on electrical and automotive components during the course of its existence. However, their relatively new power tool division has gained popularity for the high caliber and dependability of its goods, which can now be found on the shelves of well-known merchants all over the world. The majority of the world’s production locations for Ryobi goods are the US, Germany, Japan, and China.
Warranty Information
There is a warranty on the Ryobi RY906500S for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.
