Description
The gasoline-powered 98 cc OHV 4-stroke engine is the heart of the Predator 1800. It has a 120V output and a running power of 1,400W and a peak power of 1,800W. The generator has a noise level of 69 dBA, which is less loud than background music. It is started with a simple pull-start mechanism. With a 1.6-gallon fuel tank, the 1800 can run at 0.5 load for about 9.5 hours on a full tank (fuel consumption is approximately 0.17 GPH).
Outlets
The control panel has the following two AC outlets: duplex 120V 20A (5-20R). It also has 1 DC outlet: a 12V 8A plug that looks like a cigarette lighter so you can easily charge your batteries.
Features
The 1800’s control panel has a voltmeter that makes it easy to check the power output at any time. This is helpful for keeping track of its status and activity. In addition to this information, the featured light indicator will let you know when the oil level is too low. A built-in fuel gauge makes it easy and quick to check how much gas is in the generator. From a safety point of view, the product has a circuit breaker for overload protection and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without worry. The Predator’s CO SECURETM carbon monoxide detector is also helpful for the unit. While the generator is running, this system checks how much CO gas is building up and turns off the engine if it gets too high. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The Predator 1800 comes with the usual paperwork and an owner’s manual , which lets you start it right away. It also comes with a battery charging cable, a tool kit, and a funnel.
Mobility
The Predator 1800 is L18.4 x W14 x H16 inches, and it has a typical open-frame design that makes it stable and lets the generator be raised off the ground. The device was made to work well in harsh conditions and in the great outdoors. With a dry weight of 60 lbs, the 1800’s power can be used anywhere. The generator is also easier to move because it has an open frame, which makes it easy to grab and move.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Harbor Freight Corporation, which boasts an amazing list of over 200 patented items, is the sole distributor of Predator portable generators.
