Description
The gasoline-powered 420 cc Rato OHV 4-stroke engine is the heart of the ECHO EG-10000. It has a 120/240V output and a running power of 7,500W and a peak power of 10,000W. The generator can make up to 84 dBA of noise (just slightly more noisy than garbage disposal). It has both a traditional pull-start mechanism and a simple but elegant electric starter (battery included). With a full tank, the EG-10000 can run for about 8 hours at 0.5 load, which is about 0.83 GPH (gallon per hour), because it can hold 6.6 gallons of fuel.
Outlets
There are 6 AC outlets on the control panel: two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplexes, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle, and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle. It also has 1 DC outlet, which is a cigarette lighter-style 12V 8A receptacle that makes it easy to charge your batteries. Even though this ECHO generator isn’t quite RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle makes it easy to connect to an RV with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. The EG-10000 is also ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. If the power goes out, you can easily connect it to a breaker box and keep your home running.
Features
The EG-10000’s control panel has a digital data center that tells you how many hours it has run over its lifetime. This helps you keep track of its activity and status. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in it. As far as safety goes, the device has an automatic shut-off for low oil and a circuit breaker for overheating, so you can use it without worrying. The ECHO EG-10000 comes with the features we’ve already talked about, as well as the basic documentation and an owner’s manual , so you can start using it right away.
Mobility
The ECHO EG-10000 is 29 inches long, 27 inches wide, and 24 inches high. Together with its traditional, open-frame design, they support the generator and allow it to be raised above the ground. The design shown is great for the outdoors and other rough places. The generator weighs 212 pounds, so it may be hard to move or transport it by hand, even though it is technically considered “portable” (movable). Once it is on the ground, it can still be moved easily with the help of its wheels and folding handle.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
In Northbrook, Illinois, ECHO Incorporated was first established in 1972 as the Kioritz Corporation of America. The name was modified to its present form in 1978. Despite being the largest subsidiary of the Japanese company Yamabiko, its US headquarters are in Lake Zurich, Illinois, not far from Chicago. The majority of ECHO’s products are made in the US, using components from both domestic and international vendors. Portable generators, pressure washers, trimmers, blowers, and chainsaws are just a few of the many outdoor power devices it offers. The business takes pride in its commitment to the three environmental sectors of technology, conservation, and sustainability.
