Description
The heart of the Dewalt DXGN7200 is a gasoline-powered Honda GX390 OHV 4-stroke engine with 389 cc and 11.7 hp. It has a 120/240V output and a running power of 6,100W and a peak power of 7,200W. The generator has a noise level of 79 dBA, which is quieter than a shower. It has a simple pull-start mechanism as well as an easy-to-use electric starter (battery not included). With an 8-gallon fuel tank, the DXGN7200 could run for 13 hours at 0.5 load on a full tank (fuel consumption is approximately 0.62 GPH). Due to its relatively high THD (6%), the DXGN7200 can’t be used to power sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
There are 6 AC outlets on the control panel: two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplexes, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle, and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle. Even though this Dewalt generator isn’t quite RV Ready, an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter makes it easy to connect it to an RV. Besides, as it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the DXGN7200 is transfer switch ready: in case of a power outage, you will be easily able to connect it to a breaker box and power your household.
Features
The DXGN7200’s control panel has a digital data center that tells you how many hours it has been running for its whole life. This helps you keep track of its activity and status. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to find out how much gas is in it. From a safety point of view, the product has a circuit breaker for overload protection and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without worry. In addition to the features we’ve already talked about, the Dewalt DXGN7200 comes with the usual paperwork and an owner’s manual, which will help you start your generator quickly.
Mobility
The Dewalt DXGN7200 is 30.5 inches long, 21.3 inches wide, and 24.8 inches tall. It has a typical open frame design that makes it stable and allows it to be raised above ground level. This type of design is great for tough environments and heavy outdoor use. Even though this generator is technically “portable” in the sense that it can be moved, it is very hard to move by hand because it weighs 195 pounds. A lift hook on the top of the frame adds an extra safety measure when the device is being moved, unloaded, or loaded.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
DeWalt is a well-known US-based manufacturer of power tools that was established in 1922 by Raymon DeWalt. DeWalt, a current subsidiary of the Stanley Black & Decker company, has 7 manufacturing locations in the US and a wide range of items to choose from, including everything from screwdrivers to portable generators. The portable generator series from DeWalt features open, traditional designs with a range of outputs, some of which are propelled by Honda engines. They are reportedly not all built in the US, unlike many of their tools, and are instead _manufactured under license by Generac_.
