Description
With its dual-fuel technology, the WEN DF1200X is a powerful and versatile generator that can put out either 120V or 240V. Even though it runs on gasoline, it has a running wattage of 9,500W and a peak wattage of 12,000. It runs on propane and has a rated power of 9000 watts and a starting power of 11000 watts. This generator has both a simple pull-start system and a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). With a fuel capacity of 8.2 gallons, the DF1200X can run for about 7.5 hours at 0.5 load on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption is approximately 1.09 GPH). With propane, it can last up to 4.3 hours (on a 20 lbs tank – propane consumption around 1.09 GPH).
Outlets
The control panel features the following 6 AC outlets: Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R); 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle; 120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle. It also has 1 DC outlet, which is a 12V 8A receptacle that looks like a cigarette lighter. This makes it easy to charge your batteries. Since it has a 14-50R outlet, this WEN unit is ready for an RV with a 50-amp service if you have an RV with 50-amp service. The DF1200X also has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, which makes it ready for a transfer switch. This means that it can power your home when the power goes out, as it can be easily connected to your breaker box.
Features
The DF1200X’s control panel has a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours so you can keep an eye on its status and activity. In addition to this information, a light lets you know right away if the oil level is too low. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in the machine. In terms of safety, the generator can be used without worry because it has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off when the oil level gets too low. The unit also works well because WEN’s CO Watchdog can detect carbon monoxide. This system keeps track of how much CO gas is being made while the generator is running. If there is too much CO gas, the CO Watchdog system will turn off the generator automatically. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to always take your generator outside. The WEN DF1200X package comes with basic paperwork and an owner’s manual that will help you start the generator right away. It also comes with a funnel, a tool kit, a propane hose, and oil.
Mobility
The WEN DF1200X is 29.1 inches long, 28.4 inches wide, and 25.5 inches high. It has a typical open frame design that makes it stable and lets the generator be lifted off the ground. The design shown is great for the outdoors and other rough places. The generator weighs 211.6 pounds, so it may be hard to move or transport it by hand, even though it is technically considered “portable” (movable). But its wheels and folding handle make it easier to move once it’s on the floor.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Nick Anton started WEN Products in 1951. It is an American company that makes and sells power tools. The company says that its research into random orbital technology led to the development of modern chainsaws, soldering tools, and wet sharpeners. The company in Illinois grew its distribution network to include power tools like presses, drills, and, of course, power generators. As a distributor, WEN mostly sells branded products from Asia that come from different manufacturers.
Warranty Information
The WEN DF1200X has a warranty that lasts up to 2 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.
