Description
The Westinghouse WGen12000DF’s dual-fuel technology lets it put out 120/240V and gives it a lot of power and flexibility. If the device is powered by gasoline, it has a running power of 12,000W and a starting power of 15,000W. If it is run by propane, it has a rated power of 10800 watts and a starting power of 13500 watts. This generator has a noise level of 74 dBA, which is just a little louder than a dishwasher. An electric starter makes it easy to get it going (battery included). The WGen12000DF can also be started from a distance for added convenience (key fob included). With a fuel capacity of 10.5, the WGen12000DF can run for about 11 hours at 0.5 load on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption is approximately 0.95 GPH). If propane is used, it can run for about 7 hours (on a 20 lbs tank – propane consumption around 0.67 GPH). The WGen12000DF makes a clean sine wave. Its Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) is less than 5%, so you can safely plug sensitive electronics into its AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel has 7 AC outlets: two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplexes, a 120V/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle, a 120V/240V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle, and a 120V/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle. It also has 2 DC outlets and two 5V USB ports, which make it easy to charge devices like cell phones and tablets. This Westinghouse generator has an L5-30R plug, so an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter makes it easy to connect it to an RV. But it’s still not ready for an RV. The WGen12000DF is also transfer switch ready because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. You can easily connect it to your breaker box to power your home when the power goes out.
Features
The WGen12000DF’s control panel has a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. This makes it easy to keep track of its status and activity. A built-in fuel gauge makes it easy and quick to check how much gas is in the generator. From a safety point of view, the product has a circuit breaker for overload protection and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without worry. The Westinghouse WGen12000DF comes with a key fob, propane hose, battery charger, tool kit, oil, and a funnel. It also comes with standard documentation and an owner’s manual to help you get started right away.
Mobility
The Westinghouse WGen12000DF has a standard, open frame that is 34 inches long, 31 inches wide, and 35 inches high. This frame gives it support and lets it be raised above ground level. The device was made to work well in harsh conditions and in the great outdoors. Even though the generator is technically considered to “be portable,” it will be very hard to move it by hand because it weighs 352 pounds (in the sense that it is movable). Once it is on the ground, it can still be moved easily with the help of its wheels and folding handle. The generator has an extra safety feature in the form of a lift hook on the top of its frame, which makes it easier to move, load, and unload.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a part of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, which was founded in 1886 and is based in the US. Even though the company was bought by American CBS and merged with it, the Westinghouse name is still used for many of their electrical products, from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators are the main product of Westinghouse’s Outdoor Power Equipment branch. These generators used to be made by Westpro Power Systems, but Midwest Equipment bought it in 2016. Under the Westinghouse brand name, you can also buy lawn tools like trimmers and blowers. Every one of their products is made in the US. Several sources, though, say that most of the time they are made in China.
