Description
With its dual-fuel technology, the DuroMax XP10000HX is a powerful and versatile generator that can put out 120/240V. Even though it runs on gasoline, it has a running wattage of 8,000W and a maximum wattage of 10,000W. It runs on propane and has a rated power of 7600 watts and a starting power of 9500 watts. The generator can make up to 72 dBA of noise (Slightly louder than a shower). It has both a traditional pull-start mechanism and an electric starter that is convenient and easy to use (battery included). With a fuel capacity of 8.3 gallons, the XP10000HX can run for about 10.4 hours at 0.5 load using gasoline (fuel consumption is approximately 0.8 GPH). If you use propane instead, it can run for about 4.3 hours (on a 20-lb tank; propane uses about 1.09 GPH). Since the XP10000HX has a THD of about 12%, it is best not to use it to power electronics that are sensitive to noise.
Outlets
Two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplexes, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle, a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle, and a 120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle are all on the control panel. With an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter, this DuroMax generator’s L5-30R receptacle makes it easy to connect it to an RV. But it’s still not ready for an RV. The XP10000HX is also ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. You can connect it to a breaker box to power your home when the power goes out.
Features
On the XP10000HX’s control panel, there is a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours so you can keep track of its status and activity. In addition to this, the featured light indicator will let you know when the oil level is too low. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in it. As for safety features, the device has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without worry. The XP10000HX also has the CO Alert carbon monoxide shut-off feature from DuroMax. If CO levels get too high too quickly, the generator will shut down automatically, a red light will come on, and the engine won’t start again for 5 minutes. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The DuroMax XP10000HX comes with the usual paperwork and an owner’s manual , which lets you start it right away. It also comes with a tool kit, a propane hose, and a funnel.
Mobility
The DuroMax XP10000HX has a standard, open frame that is 29 inches long, 30 inches wide, and 26 inches high. This frame gives it support and lets it be lifted off the ground. This type of design is great for tough environments and heavy outdoor use. Even though this device is technically portable (meaning it can be moved), it weighs 228 pounds and can be hard to move and use without special tools. Once it is on the ground, it can still be moved easily with the help of its wheels and folding handle.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Small American power equipment manufacturer Duromax is headquartered in Ontario, California. Pumps, engines, pressure washers, and power generators are among the many goods in which Duromax excels. The company’s only concentration in this area is on portable generators, primarily those with small and medium power outputs as well as dual fuel devices. Although construction of Duromax generators is outsourced to other countries, they are designed and serviced in the US. DuroMax, which was established in 2003, has begun to emerge as a significant force in the market for power generators.
