Description
The Powerhorse 9250 has a 420 cc OHV 4-stroke engine that drives it. It gives out 120/240V, runs on gasoline, and has a running wattage of 7,500W and a peak wattage of 9,250W. This generator has both a simple pull-start system and a simple and elegant electric starter (battery not included). The 9250 can run for about 9.6 hours at 0.5 load on a full tank and 6.6 gallons of fuel (fuel consumption is approximately 0.69 GPH). As the 9250 makes a clean sine wave with a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 5%, you can safely plug sensitive electronics into the AC outlets.
Outlets
Two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplexes, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle, and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle are on the control panel. It also has 2 DC outlets and two 5V USB ports, which make it easy to charge devices like cell phones and tablets. Even though this Powerhorse generator isn’t quite RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle makes it easy to connect to an RV with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Also, the 9250 has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, which means it is ready for a transfer switch. It can power your home during a power outage because it is easy to connect to your breaker box.
Features
On the control panel of the 9250 is a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. This makes it easier to keep track of its status and activity. In addition to this information, a light shows you if there isn’t enough oil. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it easy to see at a glance how much gas is in the tank. As far as safety goes, the device has an automatic shut-off for low oil and a circuit breaker for overheating, so you can use it without worrying. The Powerhorse 9250 comes with basic instructions and an owner’s manual to help you start the generator quickly. It also comes with a tool kit and a funnel, among other things.
Mobility
The Powerhorse 9250 is 30 inches long, 26.2 inches wide, and 26.1 inches high. It has a typical open frame design that makes it stable and allows it to be raised above ground level. This type of design is great for tough environments and heavy outdoor use. Even though this generator is technically “portable” in the sense that it can be moved, its weight of 225 pounds makes it very hard to move by hand. But its wheel kit and folding handle make it easy to move once it’s on the ground, which makes up for its lack of maneuverability.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Northern Tool & Equipment Company Inc. owns and distributes gas-powered outdoor equipment under the Powerhorse brand name through its physical stores and website. Among the gas- and electric-powered instruments offered by Powerhorse are pressure washers, wood chippers and shredders, log splitters, electric generators, and inverters. Water pumps and engines are also available in the product line. The tagline of the company is “Power You Can Depend On”. Although they are produced in China, Powerhorse generators are designed, developed, and tested in Minnesota.
