Description
The gasoline-powered 420 cc Energizer OHV 4-stroke engine is the heart of the EG6850. It has a 120V/240V output and a running power of 5,500W and a peak power of 6,850W. It has a pull-start mechanism, which is a common way to start a motor. With 6.6 gallons of fuel, the EG6850 can run for about 10 hours at 0.5 load when the tank is full (fuel consumption is approximately 0.66 GPH).
Outlets
The control panel has 8 AC outlets: three 120V 20A (5-20R) duplexes, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) plug, and a 120V/240V 30A (L14-30R) plug. Even though this Energizer generator isn’t quite RV-ready, an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter makes it easy to connect it to an RV. Also, the EG6850 has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, which makes it ready for a transfer switch. It can power your home during a power outage because it is easy to connect to your breaker box.
Features
The EG6850’s control panel has a digital data center that tells you how many hours it has been running for so you can keep an eye on its status and activity. In addition to this information, a light will show you when the oil level is too low. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in the machine. From a safety point of view, the product has an automatic shut-off for low oil and an overload protection (circuit breaker), so you can use it without worrying. The Energizer EG6850 package comes with basic paperwork and an owner’s manual that will help you start the generator right away. It also comes with oil and a tool kit.
Mobility
The Energizer EG6850 has a standard, open frame that measures L28.9 x W26 x H26 in, This gives it support and lets it be lifted off the ground. The generator is built to work well outside and in rough places. Even though the generator is technically considered to “be portable,” it will be very hard to move it by hand because it weighs 168 pounds (in the sense that it is movable). Still, once it’s on the ground, its wheels and folding handle make it easy to move.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Energizer Holdings, Inc., a company that was established in 1896, is best known for producing Energizer, Varta, Rayovac, and Eveready batteries. However, Energizer has worked in a variety of industries over the course of its existence, including power generation. Most of the power generators offered by Energizer Brands LLC, a division of Energizer Holdings, Inc., are portable and come in both conventional and inverted designs. Although their manufacturing is outsourced to other countries, all Energizer generators are designed and supported in North America.
