Description
The 208 cc (7 hp) gasoline-powered DuroStar OHV 4-stroke engine in the DuroStar DS4400E can put out 120/240V. It has a running power of 3,500W and a maximum power of 4,400W. This generator has a noise level of 69 dBA, which is quieter than background music. It can be started with a pull-start, but it also has a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). With a full tank, the DS4400E can run for about 11.5 hours at 0.5 load (using about 0.35 GPH of fuel). This is because it has a 4 gallon fuel tank. Since the DS4400E has a THD of about 12%, it is best not to use it to power electronics that are sensitive to noise.
Outlets
There are 3 AC outlets on the control panel: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI outlet and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet. It also has 1 DC outlet with a 12V 8A output that makes it easy to charge batteries. The DS4400E is ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. It can be easily connected to a breaker box and can power your home if the power goes out.
Features
The DS4400E’s control panel has a voltmeter that makes it easy to check the power output at any time. This is helpful for keeping track of its status and activity. In addition to this information, if the oil level is too low, a light on the device will show. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to find out how much gas is in it. In terms of safety, the generator can be used without worry because it has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off when the oil level gets too low. The DuroStar DS4400E comes with the usual paperwork and an owner’s manual , which lets you start it right away. It also comes with a funnel, a tool kit, and battery charging cables. You can also buy a storage cover that is made by the company.
Mobility
The DuroStar DS4400E has a typical open frame that is 25 inches long, 24 inches wide, and 21 inches high. This gives it support and stability and gives you the option of raising it above ground level. The design works well in rough places and for hard outdoor use. The generator is technically “portable” because it can be moved, but at 122 pounds, it may be hard to move it by hand. Still, because of its wheel kit (dia:8 “Once the generator is on the ground, it is easy to move thanks to its wheels and folding handle, which make up for its lack of maneuverability.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Ontario, California-based business DuroMax, which was established in 2003, is the owner of the DuroStar name. Typically, DuroStar generators and DuroMax generators are identical, with the exception of their color schemes and the manufacturing facility. Although DuroStar engines and generators are made in China, the US is home to the design and servicing centers.
Warranty Information
The warranty for the DuroStar DS4400E lasts for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.
