Description
The powerful and versatile DuroMax XP4500iH gives off 120V thanks to its dual-fuel technology. Even though it runs on gasoline, it has a running wattage of 3,600W and a peak wattage of 4,500W. It is powered by propane and has a rated power of 3420 watts and a starting power of 4275 watts. Also, since it can work in parallel (but the XP4500iH-PK parallel kit is not included), its power can be increased by connecting it to a second unit that works with it. Switch On Demand is a feature of DuroMax that lets you switch from gasoline to propane or propane to gasoline while the generator is running. The noise level of the inverter generator is 65 dBA, which is just a little louder than background music. It has a simple pull-start mechanism and a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). For even more convenience, you can also start the XP4500iH from a distance (key fob included). With a fuel capacity of 2.64 gallons, the XP4500iH can run for up to 16 hours on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption is approximately 0.17 GPH). It can last up to 19 hours if you use propane (on a 20 lbs tank – propane consumption around 0.25 GPH). The XP4500iH makes a clean sine wave. With a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 3%, you can safely plug your sensitive electronics into the AC outlets.
Outlets
On the control panel, there are 3 AC outlets for: Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI; 120V 30A (TT-30R) receptacle. It also has 2 DC outlets: there are two 5V USB ports (1 x USB-A and 1 x USB-C) that make it easy to charge devices like mobile phones or tablets. This DuroMax generator is RV ready because it has a TT-30R plug. TT stands for “Travel Trailer”.
Features
The control panel of the XP4500iH has a digital data center that tells you things like the power output, voltage, lifetime run hours, fuel level, and frequency. This helps you keep an eye on its activity and status. In addition to this information, the lights tell you if the generator is ready, if it is overloaded, and if it doesn’t have enough oil. The inverter generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to find out how much gas is in it. As for safety features, the device has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without worry. The CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown feature from DuroMax is also helpful for the XP4500iH. If CO levels get too high too quickly, the generator will shut down automatically, a red light will come on, and the engine won’t start again for 5 minutes. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The DuroMax XP4500iH comes with standard paperwork and an owner’s manual that will help you get the device up and running quickly. It also comes with a battery charger, tool kit, propane hose, key fob, and funnel.
Mobility
The DuroMax XP4500iH is an inverter generator, and its closed design (L24 x W19 x H22 in) makes it look better than traditional devices with open frames. The design fits with what’s popular now and is perfect for generating power for fun. Even though the generator is technically considered to “be portable,” it will be very hard to move it by hand because it weighs 115 pounds (in the sense that it is movable). Still, once it’s on the ground, its two 4.5″-diameter wheels and telescoping handle can easily fix the problem of low mobility and make it easy to move the device.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Small American power equipment manufacturer Duromax is headquartered in Ontario, California. Pumps, engines, pressure washers, and power generators are among the many goods in which Duromax excels. The company’s only concentration in this area is on portable generators, primarily those with small and medium power outputs as well as dual fuel devices. Although construction of Duromax generators is outsourced to other countries, they are designed and serviced in the US. DuroMax, which was established in 2003, has begun to emerge as a significant force in the market for power generators.
