Description
The DuroMax XP4500DX’s dual-fuel technology lets it put out 120/240V and gives it a lot of power and flexibility. If it is powered by gasoline, the device has a running power of 3,500W and a starting power of 4,500W. If it runs on propane, it has a rated power of 3325 watts and a starting power of 4275 watts. The noise level of the generator is 69 dBA, which is less than an office. It has a simple pull-start mechanism and a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). With a 4-gallon fuel tank, the XP4500DX can run for about 10.4 hours at 0.5 load on gasoline (using about 0.38 GPH), or 8.9 hours on a 20-lb propane tank (using about 0.53 GPH). The XP4500DX can’t be used to power sensitive electronics because its THD is quite high (12%).
Outlets
The control panel has 3 AC outlets: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI outlet, a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet, and a 120V/240V 20A (5-20R) receptacle. The XP4500DX is ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. You can easily connect it to your breaker box to power your home when the power goes out.
Features
The status and activity of the XP4500DX can be easily checked on the control panel, which has a meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. In addition to this, the featured light indicator will let you know when the oil level is too low. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in the machine. From a safety point of view, the product has an automatic shut-off for low oil and an overload protection (circuit breaker), so you can use it without worrying. The XP4500DX also has the CO Alert carbon monoxide shut-off feature from DuroMax. If CO levels get too high too quickly, the generator will shut down automatically, a red light will come on, and the engine won’t start again for 5 minutes. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The DuroMax XP4500DX comes with some accessories, like a propane hose, a tool kit, and a funnel, along with the usual paperwork and an owner’s manual to get you up and running quickly.
Mobility
The DuroMax XP4500DX has a typical open frame that is 25 inches long, 23 inches wide, and 22 inches high. This gives it support and stability and gives you the option of raising it above ground level. This type of design is great for tough environments and heavy outdoor use. Even though this device is technically portable (meaning it can be moved), it weighs 126 pounds and can be hard to move and use without special tools. But its wheel kit and folding handle make it easy to move once it’s on the ground, which makes up for its lack of maneuverability.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Small American power equipment manufacturer Duromax is headquartered in Ontario, California. Pumps, engines, pressure washers, and power generators are among the many goods in which Duromax excels. The company’s only concentration in this area is on portable generators, primarily those with small and medium power outputs as well as dual fuel devices. Although construction of Duromax generators is outsourced to other countries, they are designed and serviced in the US. DuroMax, which was established in 2003, has begun to emerge as a significant force in the market for power generators.
