Description
The 457 cc/18 hp DuroMax OHV 4-stroke engine powers the DuroMax XP12000E. It gives out 120/240V, runs on gasoline, and has a running wattage of 9,500W and a peak wattage of 12,000W. The generator can make up to 72 dBA of noise (slightly noisier than running a dishwasher It has both a traditional pull-start mechanism and an electric starter that is convenient and easy to use (battery included). With a full tank, the XP12000E can run for about 9 hours at 0.5 load (its fuel consumption is about 0.92 GPH). This is because it can hold 8.3 gallons of fuel. Since the THD of the XP12000E is about 12%, it is not a good idea to use it to power sensitive electronics.
Outlets
The control panel has 5 AC outlets: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI outlet, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) outlet, a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet, and a 120/240V 50A (14-50R) outlet. It also has 1 DC outlet with a 12V 8A output that makes it easy to charge batteries. Since it has a 14-50R outlet, this DuroMax unit is ready for an RV with a 50-amp service if you have one. With an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor, its L5-30R plug can also be used to connect a simple RV. The XP12000E is also ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. It is easy to connect to a breaker box and can power your home if the power goes out.
Features
The XP12000E’s control panel has a handy voltmeter that lets you check the power output at any time. This is helpful for keeping track of its status and activity. In addition to this information, a light lets you know right away if the oil level is too low. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to find out how much gas is in it. From a safety point of view, the product has a circuit breaker for overload protection and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without worry. The DuroMax XP12000E comes with a funnel and a tool kit, as well as the usual documentation and an owner’s manual to get you up and running quickly. You can also buy a storage cover that is made by the company.
Mobility
The DuroMax XP12000E is 30 inches long, 30 inches wide, and 26 inches high. Together with its traditional, open-frame design, they support the generator and allow it to be raised above the ground. The generator is built to work well outside and in rough places. Even though this generator is technically “portable” in the sense that it can be moved, it weighs 217 pounds, which makes it very hard to move by hand. Still, the generator is easy to move once it’s on the ground, thanks to its wheel kit and folding handle, which is a good way to make up for its lack of maneuverability.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Duromax is a small company in the United States that makes power tools. Its headquarters are in Ontario, California. Duromax makes pumps, engines, pressure washers, and, most importantly, power generators. In this way, the company only makes portable generators and devices that can use both gas and electricity as fuel. The generators made by Duromax are designed and serviced in the US, but their production is done in other countries. Since its start in 2003, DuroMax is becoming known as a major player in the market for power generators.
