Description
The Dewalt DXGNR4000 has a 4 stroke, OHV, 223 cc engine. It has a 120V output, runs on gas, and has a running wattage of 4,000W and a peak wattage of 5,000W. It has a pull-start mechanism, which is a common way to start a motor. With a full tank, the DXGNR4000 can run for about 10 hours at 0.5 load (using about 0.34 GPH of fuel). This is because it has a 3.4-gallon fuel capacity.
Outlets
On the control panel, there are 5 AC outlets for: Two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplex outlets and two 120V 30A (L5-30R) duplex outlets. This Dewalt generator isn’t quite RV-ready, but it has an L5-30R receptacle that makes it easy to hook it up to an RV with an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter.
Features
A digital data center, which is part of the DXGNR4000’s control panel, lets you check on its status and activity. It also tells you how many hours it has run in its lifetime. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in it. In terms of safety, the generator can be used without worry because it has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off when the oil level gets too low. The DXGNR4000 also has the CO Protect carbon monoxide shut-off feature from Dewalt. If CO levels get too high or rise too quickly, the generator shuts down automatically. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The Dewalt DXGNR4000 comes with basic instructions and an owner’s manual to help you start the generator quickly. It also comes with oil and a funnel, among other things.
Mobility
The Dewalt DXGNR4000 has a standard, open frame that measures L23.7 x W23 x H21.4 in, This frame gives it support and lets it be raised above the ground. This type of design is great for tough environments and heavy outdoor use. The generator is technically “portable” in the sense that it can be moved, but at 119 pounds, it may be hard to move it by hand. But its wheel kit and folding handle make it easy to move once it’s on the ground, which makes up for its lack of maneuverability.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
DeWalt is a well-known US-based manufacturer of power tools that was established in 1922 by Raymon DeWalt. DeWalt, a current subsidiary of the Stanley Black & Decker company, has 7 manufacturing locations in the US and a wide range of items to choose from, including everything from screwdrivers to portable generators. The portable generator series from DeWalt features open, traditional designs with a range of outputs, some of which are propelled by Honda engines. They are reportedly not all built in the US, unlike many of their tools, and are instead _manufactured under license by Generac_.
Warranty Information
A warranty covers the Dewalt DXGNR4000 for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.
