Description
The DuroMax XP4000S has a 208 cc (7 hp) DuroMax OHV 4-stroke engine that runs on gasoline and puts out 120V, 3,300W while running, and 4,000W at its most powerful. The generator has a noise level of 69 dBA, which is less than an office. It is started with a pull-start mechanism. With a full tank, the XP4000S can run for about 12 hours at 0.5 load (using about 0.33 GPH of fuel). This is because it has a 4 gallon fuel tank. Since the THD of the XP4000S is about 12%, it is not a good idea to use it to power sensitive electronics.
Outlets
On the control panel, there are 3 AC outlets: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) outlet and a 120V 30A (L5-30R) outlet. Even though this DuroMax generator isn’t quite RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle makes it easy to connect to an RV with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor.
Features
The control panel of the XP4000S has a convenient voltmeter that enables you to quickly and easily monitor power output at any time to help you keep tabs on its status and activities. The device’s light indication will also show if the oil level is too low in addition to this information. The generator’s built-in fuel gauge makes it simple, quick, and easy to detect the fuel level. You can use the gadget with confidence because to its security features, which include an automated low oil shut-off and overload protection (circuit breaker). The DuroMax XP4000S also includes a tool kit and funnel in addition to the necessary paperwork and an owner’s manual to help you start the generator promptly. As a supplementary purchase, an official storage cover is additionally offered.
Mobility
The DuroMax XP4000S has a standard, open frame with the dimensions L23 x W17 x H18 in, This frame gives it support and lets it be lifted off the ground. The design works well in rough places and for hard outdoor use. The 92-pound weight of the XP4000S makes it easy to take it anywhere. The generator is also easier to move because it has an open frame, which makes it easy to grab and move. You can also buy the official wheel kit, which will make it easier to move the XP4000S.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Small American power equipment manufacturer Duromax is headquartered in Ontario, California. Pumps, engines, pressure washers, and power generators are among the many goods in which Duromax excels. The company’s only concentration in this area is on portable generators, primarily those with small and medium power outputs as well as dual fuel devices. Although construction of Duromax generators is outsourced to other countries, they are designed and serviced in the US. DuroMax, which was established in 2003, has begun to emerge as a significant force in the market for power generators.
Warranty Information
A warranty covers the DuroMax XP4000S for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.
