Description
The Rainier R12000DF’s dual-fuel technology lets it put out 120/240V and gives it a lot of power and flexibility. If the device is powered by gasoline, it has a running power of 9,500W and a starting power of 12,000W. If it runs on propane, it has a rated power of 8550 watts and a starting power of 10800 watts. This generator has a noise rating of 74 dBA, which is just a little bit louder than a shower. It can be started with a simple pull-start mechanism or with an easy-to-use electric starter (battery included). With a fuel capacity of 6.6 gallons, the R12000DF can run for up to 17 hours on a full tank of gas (fuel consumption is approximately 0.55 GPH). It can run for up to 11 hours on propane (on a 20 lbs tank – propane consumption around 0.43 GPH). Due to the R12000DF’s relatively high THD (23%), it is not a good idea to power sensitive electronics with it.
Outlets
The control panel has 5 AC outlets: a 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI outlet, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) outlet, a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet, and a 120/240V 50A (14-50R) outlet. If you have a 50-amp RV, you can use this Rainier unit, which has a 14-50R outlet, because it is RV-ready. With an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor, its L5-30R plug can also be used to connect a simple RV. The R12000DF is also ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. It is easy to connect to a breaker box and can power your home if the power goes out.
Features
The R12000DF’s control panel has a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. This makes it easy to keep track of its status and activity. A built-in fuel gauge makes it easy and quick to check how much gas is in the generator. In terms of safety, the generator can be used without worry because it has an automatic shut-off for low oil and an overload protection (circuit breaker). In addition to the usual paperwork and owner’s manual to get you up and running quickly, Rainier also included a propane hose with the R12000DF.
Mobility
The Rainier R12000DF has a standard, open frame that measures L29 x W24.5 x H24 in, This gives it support and lets it be lifted off the ground. The design works well in rough places and for hard outdoor use. The generator is technically “portable” in the sense that it can be moved, but at 196 pounds, it may be hard to move it by hand. Still, because of its wheel kit (dia:10 “Once the generator is on the ground, it is easy to move thanks to its wheels and folding handle, which make up for its lack of maneuverability.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Midwest Equipment Sales, LLC, which is based in Ohio, is the parent company of Rainier Outdoor Power Equipment, LLC. Midwest Equipment Sales has been in the business of selling high-quality products to the heavy construction industry for more than 150 years. These products include outdoor power equipment. They are also in charge of the Westinghouse brand of portable generators, so the quality of the Rainier brand might be the same. Amazon is the only place to buy portable power products made by the Rainier brand.
