Description
The 457 cc OHV 4-stroke engine drives the DuroMax XP12000X. It gives out 120/240V, runs on gasoline, and has a running wattage of 9,500W and a peak wattage of 12,000W. The generator has a noise level of 74 dBA, which is just a little louder than a dishwasher. It has a simple pull-start mechanism and a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). With a full tank, the XP12000X can run for about 8.8 hours at 0.5 load if it has 8.3 gallons of fuel (fuel consumption is approximately 0.94 GPH). Since the THD of the XP12000X is about 12%, it is not a good idea to use it to power sensitive electronics.
Outlets
There are 7 AC outlets on the control panel: two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplexes, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle, a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle, and a 120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle. Even though this DuroMax generator isn’t quite RV Ready, an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter makes it easy to connect it to an RV. The XP12000X is also ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. You can connect it to a breaker box to power your home when the power goes out.
Features
On the control panel of the XP12000X is a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. This makes it easier to keep track of its status and activity. In addition to this, the featured light indicator will let you know when the oil level is too low. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in it. When it comes to safety, this product has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without any worries. The XP12000X also has the CO Alert carbon monoxide shut-off feature from DuroMax. If CO levels get too high too quickly, the generator will shut down automatically, a red light will come on, and the engine won’t start again for 5 minutes. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The DuroMax XP12000X comes with the standard paperwork and an owner’s manual, which will help you get the device up and running quickly. It also comes with a tool kit and a funnel.
Mobility
The DuroMax XP12000X has a typical open frame that is 29 inches long, 30 inches wide, and 26 inches high. This gives it support and stability and gives you the option of raising it above ground level. The device was made to work well in harsh conditions and in the great outdoors. Even though this device is technically portable (meaning it can be moved), it weighs 230 pounds and can be hard to move and use without special tools. Still, the generator is easy to move once it’s on the ground, thanks to its wheel kit and folding handle, which is a good way to make up for its lack of maneuverability.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Duromax is a small company in the United States that makes power tools. Its headquarters are in Ontario, California. Duromax makes pumps, engines, pressure washers, and, most importantly, power generators. In this way, the company only makes portable generators and devices that can use both gas and electricity as fuel. The generators made by Duromax are designed and serviced in the US, but their production is done in other countries. Since its start in 2003, DuroMax is becoming known as a major player in the market for power generators.
