Description
The DuroMax XP12000EH’s dual-fuel technology lets it put out 120/240V and gives it a lot of power and flexibility. If the device is powered by gasoline, it has a running power of 9,500W and a starting power of 12,000W. If it runs on propane, it has a rated power of 8075 watts and a starting power of 10200 watts. The generator can make up to 72 dBA of noise (slightly noisier than running a dishwasher It has both a traditional pull-start mechanism and an electric starter that is convenient and easy to use (battery included). With a fuel capacity of 8.3 gallons, the XP12000EH can run for about 9 hours at 0.5 load on gasoline (using about 0.92 GPH), or about 4 hours on a 20-lb propane tank (using about 1.18 GPH). The XP12000EH can’t be used to power sensitive electronics because its THD is quite high (12%).
Outlets
The control panel has 5 AC outlets: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI outlet, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) outlet, a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet, and a 120/240V 50A (14-50R) outlet. It also has 1 DC outlet with a 12V 8A output that makes it easy to charge batteries. Even though this DuroMax generator isn’t quite RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle makes it easy to connect to an RV with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Also, the XP12000EH is ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. It is easy to connect to a breaker box and can power your home if the power goes out.
Features
On the control panel of the XP12000EH is a handy voltmeter that makes it easy to check the power output at any time. This makes it easier to keep track of its status and activity. In addition to this information, there is a light that lets you know when the oil level is too low. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it easy to see at a glance how much gas is in the tank. As for safety features, the device has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without worry. The DuroMax XP12000EH comes with the usual paperwork and an owner’s manual , which lets you start it right away. It also comes with a propane hose, a funnel, and a tool kit. You can also buy a storage cover that is made by the company.
Mobility
The DuroMax XP12000EH is 29 inches long, 30 inches wide, and 26 inches high. Together with its traditional, open-frame design, they support the generator and allow it to be raised above the ground. The design shown is great for the outdoors and other rough places. The generator is technically “portable” in the sense that it can be moved, but at 224 pounds, it may be hard to move it by hand. But its wheel kit and folding handle make it easy to move once it’s on the ground, which makes up for its lack of maneuverability.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Duromax is a small company in the United States that makes power tools. Its headquarters are in Ontario, California. Duromax makes pumps, engines, pressure washers, and, most importantly, power generators. In this way, the company only makes portable generators and devices that can use both gas and electricity as fuel. The generators made by Duromax are designed and serviced in the US, but their production is done in other countries. Since its start in 2003, DuroMax is becoming known as a major player in the market for power generators.
