Description
The powerful and versatile DuroMax XP4850HX gives off 120V thanks to its dual-fuel technology. Even though it runs on gasoline, it has a running wattage of 3,850W and a peak wattage of 4,850W. It runs on propane and has a rated power of 3650 watts and a starting power of 4600 watts. The generator is meant to make 69 dBA of noise (quieter than a regular conversation). It has both a traditional pull-start mechanism and a simple but elegant electric starter (battery included). The XP4850HX, which has a fuel tank that holds 4 gallons, can run for about 10.4 hours at 0.5 load with a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption is approximately 0.38 GPH). It can run for about 8.9 hours if propane is used (on a 20 lbs tank – propane consumption around 0.53 GPH). The XP4850HX can’t be used to power sensitive electronics because its THD is quite high (12%).
Outlets
The control panel has 3 AC outlets: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI outlet and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet. It also has 2 DC outlets: there are two 5V USB ports that make it easy to charge devices like cell phones and tablets. The XP4850HX is ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. It can be easily connected to a breaker box and can power your home if the power goes out.
Features
On the XP4850HX’s control panel, there is a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours so you can keep track of its status and activity. In addition to this information, a light will show you when the oil level is too low. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in the machine. For safety, the generator has an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, so you can use it without worrying. The XP4850HX also has the CO Alert carbon monoxide shut-off feature from DuroMax. If CO levels get too high too quickly, the generator will shut down automatically, a red light will come on, and the engine won’t start again for 5 minutes. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The DuroMax XP4850HX package comes with basic paperwork and an owner’s manual that will help you start the generator right away. It also comes with a funnel, a propane hose, and a tool kit.
Mobility
The DuroMax XP4850HX is 23 inches long, 25 inches wide, and 22 inches high. Together with its traditional, open-frame design, they support the generator and allow it to be raised above the ground. The device was made to work well in harsh conditions and in the great outdoors. The generator weighs 126 pounds, so it may be hard to move or transport it by hand, even though it is technically a “portable” generator (movable). But its wheel kit and folding handle make it easy to move once it’s on the ground, which makes up for its lack of maneuverability.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Small American power equipment manufacturer Duromax is headquartered in Ontario, California. Pumps, engines, pressure washers, and power generators are among the many goods in which Duromax excels. The company’s only concentration in this area is on portable generators, primarily those with small and medium power outputs as well as dual fuel devices. Although construction of Duromax generators is outsourced to other countries, they are designed and serviced in the US. DuroMax, which was established in 2003, has begun to emerge as a significant force in the market for power generators.
Warranty Information
The warranty for the DuroMax XP4850HX lasts for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.
