Description
The 54cc 4-stroke OHV engine of the Powermate PM1200i runs on gasoline and can put out 120V. It has a running power of 1,000W and a maximum power of 1,200W. The pull-start mechanism on this inverter generator is standard. With a full tank, the PM1200i can run for up to 7 hours (using about 0.11 GPH of fuel). This is because it can hold 0.79 gallons of fuel. The PM1200i makes a clean sine wave with a Total Harmonic Distortion of less than 3%, so you can safely plug sensitive electronics into the AC outlets (THD).
Outlets
On the control panel, there are two 120V 20A duplex outlets (5-20R).
Features
The lights tell you if the generator is too full, if the oil level is too low, or if it is ready to use. For safety, the generator has an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), so you can use it without worrying. The Powermate PM1200i package comes with basic instructions and an owner’s manual that will help you start the generator right away. It also comes with a tool kit and a funnel.
Mobility
Since the Powermate PM1200i is an inverter generator, its enclosed design (L18.3 x W10.3 x H15.7 in) looks better than a traditional open frame product. The design shown here is in line with the latest trends and is great for easy and fun use. The PM1200i is a lightweight and portable generator because it only weighs 33 pounds. The device is easy for one person to move, so its power can be used while on the go. The handle, which is built into the case, is also helpful because it makes it easy to carry. Good to know: This is the eighth smallest portable generator on our list.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
While Powermate’s past is a little mysterious, they assert to have been selling portable generators and other outdoor power equipment for over 40 years. They entered into a contract with the Italian PRAMAC in 2009 under what they refer to as “partnership,” but is actually ownership. Generac purchased Powermate from PRAMAC in 2014.
Warranty Information
A warranty covers the Powermate PM1200i for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.
