Description
The Yamaha EF2400iSHC has a 171cc Yamaha MZ175 OHV 4-stroke engine that runs on gasoline and can put out 120V. It has a running power of 2,000W and a maximum power of 2,400W. The pull-start mechanism on the inverter generator is simple and old-fashioned. It can make up to 53 dBA of noise (just slightly more noisy than rainfall). Yamaha’s Smart ThrottleTM is built into this generator. This load-sensing feature automatically changes the speed of the engine to match how much it is being used. This saves fuel and reduces noise. With a full tank, the EF2400iSHC can run for up to 11 hours (using about 0.15 GPH of fuel). This is because it can hold 1.6 gallons of fuel. Since the EF2400iSHC makes a clean sine wave with a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 2.5%, you can safely plug sensitive electronics into the AC outlets.
Outlets
On the control panel, there are two 120V 20A duplex outlets (5-20R). It also has 1 DC outlet: a 12V 8A receptacle that makes it easy to charge batteries.
Features
The lights tell you if the generator is overloaded, if it’s ready to go, and if it doesn’t have enough oil. The inverter generator has a built-in fuel gauge, which makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in the machine. For safety, the generator has an automatic low oil shut-off (Oil Watch system) and an overload protection (circuit breaker), which lets you use it without worrying. The Oil Watch warning system from Yamaha gives you more peace of mind. This feature makes the car last longer because it keeps the engine from getting damaged and needing expensive repairs. When the oil gets low, the generator turns off by itself and won’t start again until more oil is added. The EF2400iSHC came with the usual paperwork and owner’s manual to get you up and running quickly. Yamaha also included battery charging cables.
Mobility
The encased inverter generator design of the Yamaha EF2400iSHC (L20.8 x W16.5 x H18.2 in) makes it look better than any ordinary open frame product. The generator has a modern look and is easy to use when generating power for fun. The EF2400iSHC is easy to take with you wherever you need power because it weighs only 75 pounds when it’s dry. Also, shifting it is easy because the EF2400iSHC has a clever double handle that makes it much easier to hold.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Japanese-based Yamaha Corporation, established in 1887, has a lengthy history spanning more than 130 years and has a hand in just about every sector imaginable, most notably motorbikes, musical instruments, and electronics. Many of the best portable generators are among the company’s diverse offering of goods. Many of the more recent versions, it has been said, are built in China rather than Japan.
Warranty Information
There is a warranty on the Yamaha EF2400iSHC for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts. Yamaha’s warranty policies can tell you more about how long the warranty on a Yamaha generator lasts. You can also call their customer service line at 1-800-962-7926.
