Description
The gasoline-powered 223 cc OHV 4-stroke engine is the heart of the Predator 4550. It has a 120V output and a running power of 3,650W and a peak power of 4,550W. Also, since it can work in parallel (but doesn’t come with a parallel kit), this power can be increased by connecting it to another unit that works with it. The noise level of the inverter generator is 64.6 dBA, which is just a little louder than a normal conversation. It is started with a pull-start mechanism. With a full tank, the 4550 can run for up to 16.1 hours (using about 0.23 GPH of fuel). Its fuel capacity is 3.72 gallons. The 4550 makes a clean sine wave. With a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 5%, you can safely plug sensitive electronics into its AC outlets.
Outlets
On the control panel, there are 5 AC outlets for: Two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplex outlets and two 120V 30A (L5-30R) duplex outlets. It also has 2 DC outlets: there are two 5V USB ports (USB-A) that make it easy to charge devices like cell phones and tablets. With an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter, this Predator generator’s L5-30R receptacle makes it easy to connect it to an RV (included). But it’s still not ready for an RV.
Features
Several lights let you know when the generator is too busy, when the oil level is too low, and when it’s ready to go. The inverter generator has a built-in fuel gauge, which makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in the machine. As far as safety goes, the device has an automatic shut-off for low oil and a circuit breaker for overheating, so you can use it without worrying. The Predator’s CO SECURETM carbon monoxide detector is also helpful for the unit. While the generator is running, this system checks how much CO gas is building up and turns off the engine if it gets too high. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The Predator 4550 comes with basic instructions and an owner’s manual to help you start the generator quickly. It also comes with a tool kit, a funnel, and an RV adapter.
Mobility
The typical open frame design gives the generator stability and lets it be raised up off the ground. The design shown is great for the outdoors and other rough places. With a dry weight of 77 lbs, the 4550’s power can be used anywhere. Also, the open frame makes it very easy to grab the frame and move it. If you need more help moving this unit, you can buy the official wheel kit as a separate item.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
