Description
The Westinghouse WGen9500DFc is powerful and flexible, thanks to its dual-fuel technology that lets it run on both 120V and 240V. When powered by gasoline, it has a running wattage of 9,500W and a maximum wattage of 12,500W. When run on propane, it has a rated power of 8500 watts and a peak power of 11200 watts. This generator has a noise level of 74 dBA, which is just a little louder than a dishwasher. It can be started with a pull-start mechanism or a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). The WGen9500DFc can also be started from a distance for added convenience (key fob included). With a fuel capacity of 6.6 gallons, the WGen9500DFc can run for about 12 hours at 0.5 load on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption is approximately 0.55 GPH). With propane, it can last up to about 7 hours (on a 20 lbs tank – propane consumption around 0.67 GPH). The WGen9500DFc can’t be used to power sensitive electronics because its THD is quite high (23%).
Outlets
The control panel has 6 AC outlets, including two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplexes, a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle, and a 120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle. Since it has a 14-50R outlet, this Westinghouse unit is ready for use in an RV with a 50-amp service. In addition, because the WGen9500DFc is equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it can power your home during a power outage, as it can be easily connected to your breaker box to power your household.
Features
The control center of the WGen9500DFc has a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. This helps you keep track of its status and activity. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in it. As far as safety goes, the device has an automatic shut-off for low oil and a circuit breaker for overheating, so you can use it without worrying. It also has a sensor for carbon monoxide. This sensor is meant to measure the amount of carbon monoxide in the air while the generator is running. If the generator isn’t set up right and carbon monoxide levels get too high, the generator will turn off by itself. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The Westinghouse WGen9500DFc comes with the usual paperwork and an owner’s manual , which lets you start it right away. It also comes with a propane hose, key fob, oil, battery charger, tool kit, and funnel. You can also buy a storage cover that is made by the company.
Mobility
The standard, open frame design of the Westinghouse WGen9500DFc, which is L27.2 by W26.1 by H26.5 inches, gives the generator stability and lets it be raised above ground level. The generator is built to work well outside and in rough places. Even though the generator is technically considered to “be portable,” it will be very hard to move it by hand because it weighs 212 pounds (in the sense that it is movable). It is hard to move around, but its wheel kit (dia:10) makes it possible “Once it’s on the floor, it will be easier to move because of the handle that folds down.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).

Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a part of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, which was founded in 1886 and is based in the US. Even though the company was bought by American CBS and merged with it, the Westinghouse name is still used for many of their electrical products, from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators are the main product of Westinghouse’s Outdoor Power Equipment branch. These generators used to be made by Westpro Power Systems, but Midwest Equipment bought it in 2016. Under the Westinghouse brand name, you can also buy lawn tools like trimmers and blowers. Every one of their products is made in the US. Several sources, though, say that most of the time they are made in China.
