Description
With its powerful and flexible dual-fuel technology, the Westinghouse WGen5300DFc can put out either 120V or 240V. Even though it runs on gasoline, it has a running wattage of 5,300W and a peak wattage of 6,600W. It runs on propane and has a rated power of 4800 watts and a starting power of 5900 watts. The noise level of the generator is 68 dBA, which is less than an office. It has a simple pull-start mechanism and a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). The WGen5300DFc can also be started from a distance, which makes it even more convenient (key fob included). With a fuel capacity of 4.7 gallons, the WGen5300DFc can run for about 11 hours at 0.5 load on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption is approximately 0.43 GPH). With propane, it can go for up to 9 hours (on a 20 lbs tank – propane consumption around 0.52 GPH). Since the WGen5300DFc has a THD of about 23%, it shouldn’t be used to power electronics that are sensitive to noise.
Outlets
The control panel has 4 AC outlets: two 120V 20A (5-20R) outlets, one 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet, and one 120V 30A (TT-30R) outlet. Because it has a TT-30R plug (TT stands for “Travel Trailer”), this Westinghouse generator is ready for an RV. The WGen5300DFc is also ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. It is easy to connect to a breaker box and can power your home if the power goes out.
Features
The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in the machine. From a safety point of view, the product has an automatic shut-off for low oil and an overload protection (circuit breaker), so you can use it without worrying. It also has a sensor for carbon monoxide. This sensor is meant to measure the amount of carbon monoxide in the air while the generator is running. If the generator isn’t set up right and carbon monoxide levels get too high, the generator will turn off by itself. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The Westinghouse WGen5300DFc comes with the usual paperwork and an owner’s manual , which lets you start it right away. It also comes with a battery charger, key fob, propane hose, tool kit, funnel, and oil.
Mobility
The standard, open frame design of the Westinghouse WGen5300DFc, which is L23.4 x W20.6 x H19.5 in, gives the generator stability and lets it be raised above ground level. The device was made to work well in harsh conditions and in the great outdoors. The generator weighs 135.6 pounds, so it may be hard to move or transport it by hand, even though it is technically considered “portable” (movable). To make the generator easier to move around, you might want to buy an official wheel kit.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Westinghouse Electric Corporation was established in 1886, and its heritage business, Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment, is situated in the US. The Westinghouse name continues to be the brand name for many of its electrical solutions, which range throughout the scale from power plants to portable generators, despite the fact that the firm has been acquired and integrated into the American CBS. The primary product of Westinghouse’s Outdoor Power Equipment division, portable generators were previously produced by Westpro Power Systems, which Midwest Equipment acquired in 2016. Under the Westinghouse brand, lawn tools including trimmers and blowers are also offered for sale. Their entire line of items is American-designed. However, according to a number of sites, they are frequently made in China.
