Description
The gasoline-powered 999 cc OHV V-Twin engine is the heart of the Westinghouse WGen20000. It has a 120/240V output and a running power of 20,000W and a peak power of 28,000W. The generator has a noise level of 74 dBA, which is just a little louder than a shower. It has a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). With a full tank, the WGen20000 can run for about 11 hours at 0.5 load (using about 1.56 GPH of fuel). This is because it has a 17.17-gallon fuel capacity. The WGen20000 makes a clean sine wave. Since it has 5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), you can safely plug sensitive electronics into its AC outlets.
Outlets
Two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplexes, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle, two 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacles, and two 120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacles are all on the control panel. This Westinghouse generator has an L5-30R plug, so an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter makes it easy to connect it to an RV. But it’s still not ready for an RV. Also, the WGen20000 has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, which makes it ready for a transfer switch. It can power your home during a power outage because it is easy to connect to your breaker box.
Features
On the control panel of the WGen20000 is a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. This makes it easier to keep track of its status and activity. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in it. For safety, the generator has an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), so you can use it without worrying. The Westinghouse WGen20000 comes with the usual paperwork and an owner’s manual , which lets you start it up right away. It also comes with oil, a funnel, and a tool kit.
Mobility
The standard, open frame design of the Westinghouse WGen20000, which is 38 inches long, 35 inches wide, and 40.4 inches high, gives the generator stability and lets it be raised above ground level. The generator is built to work well outside and in rough places. Even though this generator is technically “portable” in the sense that it can be moved, its weight of 540 pounds makes it very hard to move by hand. But its hard-to-move wheels are fixed by a wheel kit (DIA:13) “Once it’s on the floor, it will be easier to move because of the handle that folds down. A lift hook on the top of the frame adds another layer of safety and makes it easier to move, load, and unload the generator.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).

Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a part of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, which was founded in 1886 and is based in the US. Even though the company was bought by American CBS and merged with it, the Westinghouse name is still used for many of their electrical products, from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators are the main product of Westinghouse’s Outdoor Power Equipment branch. These generators used to be made by Westpro Power Systems, but Midwest Equipment bought it in 2016. Under the Westinghouse brand name, you can also buy lawn tools like trimmers and blowers. Every one of their products is made in the US. Several sources, though, say that most of the time they are made in China.
