Description
The Westinghouse iGen4500DF’s dual-fuel technology lets it put out 120V and gives it a lot of power and flexibility. If it is powered by gasoline, the device has a running power of 3,700W and a starting power of 4,500W. If it runs on propane, it has a rated power of 3330 watts and a starting power of 4050 watts. Also, the device can work in parallel (but doesn’t come with a parallel cord), so it can be linked to a similar or compatible unit for more power. The inverter generator is one of our 10 quietest portable generators because it has a low noise rating of 52 dBA, which is only slightly louder than a quiet suburb. It has both a traditional pull-start mechanism and a simple but elegant electric starter (battery included). The iGen4500DF can also be started from a distance, which makes it even more convenient (key fob included). With a fuel capacity of 3.4 gallons, the iGen4500DF can run on gasoline for up to 18 hours (using about 0.19 GPH) or on propane for up to 22 hours (using about 0.21 GPH) on a 20-lb tank. The iGen4500DF makes a clean sine wave with a Total Harmonic Distortion of less than 3%, so it’s safe to plug sensitive electronics into AC outlets (THD).
Outlets
On the control panel, there are 3 AC outlets for: Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R); 120V 30A (TT-30R) receptacle. It also has 2 DC outlets: there are two 5V USB ports that make it easy to charge devices like cell phones or tablets. Because it has a TT-30R plug (TT stands for “Travel Trailer”), this Westinghouse generator is ready for an RV.
Features
One of the many features of the iGen4500DF is its control panel, which has a data center. The data center gives you information on the remaining run time, lifetime run hours, power output, voltage, and fuel level, so you can easily keep track of its activity and status. In addition to this information, the device’s lights will show if the generator is ready, if it is overloaded, or if it doesn’t have enough oil. For safety, the generator has an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), so you can use it without worrying. The Westinghouse iGen4500DF comes with the standard paperwork and an owner’s manual, which will help you get the device up and running quickly. It also comes with a battery charger, tool kit, oil, funnel, propane hose, and key fob. You can also buy a separate cover for storing the chair.
Mobility
The Westinghouse iGen4500DF is an inverter generator. It has a case that is 24.5 inches long, 17.5 inches wide, and 20 inches high. So, it looks better than most other products with open frames. The generator has a modern look and is easy to use when generating power for fun. Even though this device is technically portable (meaning it can be moved), it can be hard to move and use it without special tools because it weighs 104.7 pounds. Still, the generator is easy to move once it’s on the ground. This is because it has two wheels with a diameter of 5.5″ and a telescoping handle, which makes up for the fact that it’s not very maneuverable.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Westinghouse Electric Corporation was established in 1886, and its heritage business, Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment, is situated in the US. The Westinghouse name continues to be the brand name for many of its electrical solutions, which range throughout the scale from power plants to portable generators, despite the fact that the firm has been acquired and integrated into the American CBS. The primary product of Westinghouse’s Outdoor Power Equipment division, portable generators were previously produced by Westpro Power Systems, which Midwest Equipment acquired in 2016. Under the Westinghouse brand, lawn tools including trimmers and blowers are also offered for sale. Their entire line of items is American-designed. However, according to a number of sites, they are frequently made in China.
