Description
The WEN GN6000 has a 272 cc OHV 4-stroke engine that puts out 120/240V, runs on gasoline, and puts out 5,000W while running and 6,000W at its peak. The generator has a noise level of 68 dBA, which is quieter than background music. It has a simple pull-start mechanism. With a full tank, the GN6000 can run for about 7.5 hours at 0.5 load (using about 0.45 GPH of fuel), since it has a 3.4-gallon fuel capacity.
Outlets
There are 4 AC outlets on the control panel: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) outlet, a 120V 30A (TT-30R) outlet, and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet. It also has 1 DC outlet: a 12V 8A plug that looks like a cigarette lighter so you can easily charge your batteries. This WEN generator is ready for an RV because it has a TT-30R (TT stands for “Travel Trailer”) receptacle. The GN6000 is also ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. If the power goes out, you can easily connect it to a breaker box and keep your home running.
Features
On the GN6000’s control panel, there is a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours so you can keep track of its status and activity. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in the machine. For safety, the generator has an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), so you can use it without worrying. WEN included a tool kit with the GN6000, along with the usual documentation and owner’s manual, to help you get started right away.
Mobility
The WEN GN6000 is 23.2 inches long, 16.9 inches wide, and 17.2 inches high. It has a typical open frame design that makes it stable and allows it to be lifted off the ground. The device was made to work well in harsh conditions and in the great outdoors. Even though the generator is technically considered to “be portable,” it will be very hard to move it by hand because it weighs 119 pounds (in the sense that it is movable). Still, the generator is easy to move once it’s on the ground, thanks to its wheel kit and folding handle, which is a good way to make up for its lack of maneuverability.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Nick Anton started WEN Products, an American power tool manufacturer and distributor, in 1951. WEN Products says that its research in random orbital technology contributed to the creation of current chainsaws, soldering tools, and wet sharpeners. The Illinois-based corporation increased the range of power tools that were available through its distribution network, including presses, drills, and of course, power generators. WEN is a distributor, and the majority of the products in its inventory are branded imports from Asian manufacturers.
Warranty Information
The WEN GN6000 has a warranty that lasts up to 2 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.
