Description
The WEN GN400i is made with a 212 cc OHV 4-stroke engine that runs on gasoline. It has a 120V output and a running power of 3,500W and a peak power of 4,000W. Also, since it can work in parallel (but doesn’t come with a WEN Parallel Connection Kit), its power can be increased by connecting it to a second compatible unit. This inverter generator has a noise level of 67 dBA, which is less than a normal conversation. It starts up with a traditional pull-start mechanism. The GN400i can run for about 7 hours at 0.5 load on a full tank of 1.85 gallons of fuel (fuel consumption is approximately 0.26 GPH). Since the GN400i makes a clean sine wave with a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 1.2%, you can safely plug sensitive electronics into the AC outlets.
Outlets
On the control panel, there are 3 AC outlets for: Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R); 120V 30A (TT-30R) receptacle. It also has two DC outlets and two 5V USB ports, which make it easy to charge devices like cell phones and tablets. This WEN generator is RV ready because it has a TT-30R plug. TT stands for “Travel Trailer”.
Features
Light indicators will let you know when the generator is overloaded, when it is ready to go, and when it doesn’t have enough oil. The inverter generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it easy and quick to check the fuel level. The fuel shutoff feature stops the flow of fuel, which lets the GN400i use up the last of the fuel in the carburetor before shutting down automatically. This helps prevent the buildup and blockages that can happen when fuel sits in the carburetor for too long. This makes the unit last longer and requires less maintenance. As far as safety goes, you can use the generator without worry because it has an automatic low oil shut-off, overload protection (a circuit breaker), and an automatic low fuel shut-off. The WEN GN400i comes with basic instructions and an owner’s manual to help you start the generator quickly. It also comes with a tool kit, funnel, 2 altitude kits, and oil, among other things. You can also buy a storage cover that is made by the company.
Mobility
The WEN GN400i has a traditional, open frame that measures L19.8 x W13.8 x H18.9 in, This frame gives it support and lets it be lifted off the ground. The design shown is great for the outdoors and other rough places. With a dry weight of 66.1 lbs, the GN400i can easily go wherever you need power. The generator is also easier to pick up and move around because its frame is open.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Nick Anton started WEN Products, an American power tool manufacturer and distributor, in 1951. WEN Products says that its research in random orbital technology contributed to the creation of current chainsaws, soldering tools, and wet sharpeners. The Illinois-based corporation increased the range of power tools that were available through its distribution network, including presses, drills, and of course, power generators. WEN is a distributor, and the majority of the products in its inventory are branded imports from Asian manufacturers.
Warranty Information
The WEN GN400i has a warranty that lasts up to 2 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts. Check out WEN’s warranty policies to learn more about the warranty on their generators. You can also call their customer service line at 1-847-429-9263. Check WEN Website for more information.
