Description
The powerful and versatile WEN DF623X has an output of 120/240V thanks to its dual-fuel technology. Even though it runs on gasoline, it has a running wattage of 5,000W and a peak wattage of 6,250W. It runs on propane and has a rated power of 4500 watts and a starting power of 5625 watts. It has a simple pull-start mechanism and a simple and elegant electric starter to get it going (battery included). With a fuel tank of 2.9 gallons, the DF623X can run for about 6 hours at 0.5 load on gasoline (fuel consumption is approximately 0.48 GPH). If you use propane instead, it can run for about 9.3 hours on a 20-pound tank (propane uses about 0.51 GPH). The THD (20%) of the DF623X is too high for it to be used to power sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel has 4 AC outlets: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) outlet, a 120V 30A (TT-30R) outlet, and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet. It also has 1 DC outlet, which is a 12V 10A receptacle that looks like a cigarette lighter. This makes it easy to charge your batteries. This WEN generator is RV ready because it has a TT-30R plug. TT stands for “Travel Trailer”. The DF623X is also ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. You can connect it to a breaker box to power your home when the power goes out.
Features
The DF623X’s control panel has a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. This helps you keep track of its status and activity. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it easy to see at a glance how much gas is in the tank. When it comes to safety, this product has an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), so you can use it without worry. The unit also works well because WEN’s CO Watchdog can detect carbon monoxide. This system keeps track of how much CO gas is being made while the generator is running. If there is too much CO gas, the CO Watchdog system will turn off the generator automatically. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to always take your generator outside. The WEN DF623X package comes with basic paperwork and an owner’s manual that will help you start the generator right away. It also comes with a funnel, propane hose, oil, and a tool kit. You can also buy a storage cover that is made by the company.
Mobility
The WEN DF623X is 26.1 inches long, 23.4 inches wide, and 22.1 inches high. Together with its traditional, open-frame design, they support the generator and allow it to be raised above the ground. The design shown is great for the outdoors and other rough places. The generator is technically “portable” in the sense that it can be moved, but at 132 pounds, it may be hard to move it by hand. Still, once it’s on the ground, its wheels and folding handle make it easy to move.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Nick Anton started WEN Products, an American power tool manufacturer and distributor, in 1951. WEN Products says that its research in random orbital technology contributed to the creation of current chainsaws, soldering tools, and wet sharpeners. The Illinois-based corporation increased the range of power tools that were available through its distribution network, including presses, drills, and of course, power generators. WEN is a distributor, and the majority of the products in its inventory are branded imports from Asian manufacturers.
