Description
The WEN DF452iX has 120V and a lot of power and versatility thanks to its dual-fuel technology. When powered by gasoline, it has a running wattage of 3,500W and a maximum wattage of 4,500W. When powered by propane, it has a rated 3150 watts and a peak of 4500 watts. With WEN’s Auto Fuel Selection technology, the fuel source (LPG or gasoline) is chosen automatically based on availability, with LPG being given priority. So, if the generator is hooked up to a propane tank with enough LPG, the generator will automatically use LPG. If there is no propane tank attached or not enough LPG in the tank, the generator will use gasoline. The noise level of the inverter generator is set at 58 dBA (The noise level is lower than that of a refrigerator). It has both a traditional pull-start mechanism and a simple but elegant electric starter (battery included). For more convenience, the DF452iX can also be started from a distance (key fob included). With a fuel capacity of 2.2 gallons, the DF452iX can run for about 8.5 hours at 0.5 load on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption is approximately 0.26 GPH). With propane, it can go for up to 9 hours (on a 20 lbs tank – propane consumption around 0.52 GPH). The DF452iX makes a clean sine wave with a Total Harmonic Distortion of less than 1.2%, so it’s safe to plug sensitive electronics into AC outlets (THD).
Outlets
On the control panel, there are 3 AC outlets for: Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R); 120V 30A (TT-30R) receptacle. Also, it has 1 DC outlet: a 12V 8A receptacle that looks like a cigarette lighter. This makes it easy to charge your batteries. Since the unit comes with a dual port USB adapter, you can also use the DC receptacle to easily charge devices like cell phones and tablets. The TT-30R plug on this WEN generator is ready for an RV. TT stands for “Travel Trailer”.
Features
A digital data center on the DF452iX’s control panel gives information about the lifetime run hours, voltage, fuel level, power output, and frequency, which makes it possible to keep track of its status and activity. In addition to this, the generator has a number of lights that tell you when the oil level is too low, when the generator is overloaded, and when it is ready. The fuel shutoff feature stops the flow of fuel, which lets the DF452iX use up the last of the fuel in the carburetor before turning off automatically. This helps prevent the buildup and blockages that can happen when fuel sits in the carburetor for too long. This makes the unit last longer and requires less maintenance. As for its safety features, the device has an automatic shut-off for low oil, an automatic shut-off for low fuel, and an overload protection (circuit breaker), so you can use it without worrying. The unit also works well because WEN’s CO Watchdog can detect carbon monoxide. This system keeps track of how much CO gas is being made while the generator is running. If there is too much CO gas, the CO Watchdog system will turn off the generator automatically. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to always take your generator outside. The WEN DF452iX comes with a key fob, funnel, dual port USB adapter, natural gas hose with NPT adapter, and a tool kit. It also comes with standard documentation and an owner’s manual to help you get started right away.
Mobility
The WEN DF452iX is an inverter generator with the following measurements: L23.2 x W18 x H20.1 in, So, it looks better than most other products with open frames. This kind of design is the most modern and easy way to make power for fun. The generator is technically “portable” in the sense that you can move it, but at 100 pounds, it may be hard to move it by hand. Still, the generator is easy to move once it’s on the ground. This is because it has two wheels and a folding handle, which makes up for the fact that it’s not very easy to move.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Nick Anton started WEN Products, an American power tool manufacturer and distributor, in 1951. WEN Products says that its research in random orbital technology contributed to the creation of current chainsaws, soldering tools, and wet sharpeners. The Illinois-based corporation increased the range of power tools that were available through its distribution network, including presses, drills, and of course, power generators. WEN is a distributor, and the majority of the products in its inventory are branded imports from Asian manufacturers.
