Description
The Pulsar PG6000R is run by a Ducar OHV 4-stroke engine with 274 cc and 8.5 hp. It gives out 120/240V, runs on gasoline, and has a running wattage of 5,000W and a peak wattage of 6,000W. This generator has a noise level of 73 dBA, which is just a little louder than a vacuum cleaner. It starts up with a traditional pull-start mechanism. With a full tank, the PG6000R can run for about 11.5 hours at 0.5 load (using about 0.45 GPH of fuel). This is because it can hold 5.2 gallons of fuel.
Outlets
The control panel has 6 AC outlets: two 120V 20A (5-20R) duplexes, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) plug, and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) plug. Also, it has 1 DC outlet with a 12V 8A output that makes it easy to charge your batteries. Even though this Pulsar generator isn’t quite RV Ready, an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter makes it easy to connect it to an RV. The PG6000R is also ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. If the power goes out, you can easily connect it to a breaker box and keep your home running.
Features
On the control panel of the PG6000R is a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. This makes it easier to keep track of its status and activity. Along with this information, a light lets you know right away if the oil level is too low. A built-in fuel gauge makes it easy and quick to check how much gas is in the generator. As far as safety goes, the device has an automatic shut-off for low oil and a circuit breaker for overheating, so you can use it without worrying. Pulsar packed the PG6000R with the usual paperwork and owner’s manual to get you up and running quickly, as well as a tool kit.
Mobility
The Pulsar PG6000R has a typical open frame that measures L24.5 x W23.5 x H21.5 in, This gives it support and stability and lets it be raised above ground level. The device was made to work well in harsh conditions and in the great outdoors. Even though this generator is technically “portable” in the sense that it can be moved, it is very hard to move by hand because it weighs 126 pounds. Once it is on the ground, it can still be moved easily with the help of its wheels and folding handle.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
A good selection of air compressors, pressure washers, and of course generators are available from Pulsar Products Inc., a firm situated in California, USA. Their models vary from 1,2 kW to 10 kW and include dual fuel and RV-Ready designs. The US is home to a number of Pulsar facilities, including two distribution centers, one in Illinois and one in California. However, it appears that Asia is where they outsource the production of their goods.
Warranty Information
A warranty covers the Pulsar PG6000R for up to 2 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts. Pulsar generators come with a warranty that you can learn more about by calling Pulsar Customer Support at 1-866-591-8921.
