Description
The Honda EM6500SX has a 389 cc Honda iGX390 OHV 4-stroke engine that runs on gasoline, gives out 120/240V, and has a running wattage of 5,500W and a peak wattage of 6,500W. (and even up to 7,000 W thanks to the iAVR technology). This generator has a noise level of 64 dBA, which is just a little louder than background music. It can be started with a simple pull-start mechanism or a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). For even more convenience, you can also start the EM6500SX from a distance (via the My Generator App ). With a full tank, the EM6500SX can run for about 9.8 hours at 0.5 load if it has 6.2 gallons of fuel (fuel consumption is approximately 0.63 GPH). The THD (10%) of the EM6500SX is too high for it to be used to power sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
There are 6 AC outlets on the control panel: two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplexes, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle, and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle. It also sports 1 DC outlet: there’s a 12V 8A output with which you may charge your batteries with ease. Even though this Honda generator is not RV Ready, an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor can be used to easily connect it to an RV. Also, the EM6500SX is ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. It is easy to connect to a breaker box and can power your home if the power goes out.
Features
The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in it. For safety, the generator has an automatic low oil shut-off (Oil Alert®) and an overload protection (circuit breaker), so you can use it without worrying. In addition to the features we’ve already talked about, the Honda EM6500SX comes with the usual paperwork and an owner’s manual, which will help you start your generator quickly. You can buy a storage cover from the company separately.
Mobility
The Honda EM6500SX is 41.4 inches long, 27.8 inches wide, and 28.3 inches high. It has a typical open frame design that makes it stable and allows it to be lifted off the ground. This type of design is great for tough environments and heavy outdoor use. The generator weighs 231.7 pounds, so it may be hard to move or transport it by hand, even though it is technically considered “portable” (movable). Once it is on the ground, it can still be moved easily with the help of its wheels and folding handle.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Japanese Honda Motor Company, founded in 1948, has built a reputation for regularly delivering high-quality engines, motorized vehicles, and equipment. The business has built a solid name over the years in the power tool, motorbike, and vehicle industries. Since 1953, Honda’s power tool division has been manufacturing various power tools, such as tillers, mowers, blowers, sprayers, and of course, generators. Honda is still regarded as a legend among generator manufacturers even after the firm went worldwide and shifted the majority of its production from Japan to other Asian nations.
Warranty Information
There is a warranty on the Honda EM6500SX for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.
