Description
The Honda EM4000SX has a 270cc Honda iGX270 OHV 4-stroke engine that provides 120/240V, runs on gasoline, and puts out 3,500W continuously and 4,000W at its peak (and even up to 5,000 W thanks to the iAVR technology). This generator has a noise level of 61 dBA, which is just a little louder than background music. It can be started with a pull-start mechanism or a convenient, easy-to-use electric starter (battery included). The EM4000SX can also be started from a distance, which makes it even more convenient (separate purchase). With a full tank, the EM4000SX can run for about 16 hours at 0.5 load (using about 0.39 GPH of fuel). This is because it can hold 6.2 gallons of fuel.
Outlets
The following 6 AC outlets are on the control panel: Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI; 120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle; 120/240V 20A (L14-20R) receptacle. Also, it has 1 DC outlet with a 12V 8A output, which makes it easy to charge batteries. This Honda generator isn’t quite RV Ready, but it has an L5-30R receptacle that makes it easy to hook it up to an RV with an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter.
Features
The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it easy to see at a glance how much gas is in the tank. In terms of safety, you can use the generator without worry because it has an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off (Oil Alert®) system. Along with the features we’ve already talked about, the Honda EM4000SX comes with standard documentation and an owner’s manual to help you get started right away. You can buy a storage cover from the company separately.
Mobility
The Honda EM4000SX is a standard, open-frame generator with dimensions of L41.1 x W27.8 x H28.3 in, This gives the generator stability and lets it be raised above ground level. The device was made to work well in harsh conditions and in the great outdoors. Although the generator is officially deemed “portable,” it would be quite challenging to manually lift and transport it due to its weight of 204 pounds (in the sense that it is movable). But its wheels and folding handle make it easier to move once it’s on the floor.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Japanese Honda Motor Company, founded in 1948, has built a reputation for regularly delivering high-quality engines, motorized vehicles, and equipment. The business has built a solid name over the years in the power tool, motorbike, and vehicle industries. Since 1953, Honda’s power tool division has been manufacturing various power tools, such as tillers, mowers, blowers, sprayers, and of course, generators. Honda is still regarded as a legend among generator manufacturers even after the firm went worldwide and shifted the majority of its production from Japan to other Asian nations.
Warranty Information
There is a warranty on the Honda EM4000SX for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.
