Description
The Genmax GM6000iED’s dual-fuel technology lets it put out 120/240V and gives it a lot of power and flexibility. If it is powered by gasoline, the device has a running power of 5,250W and a starting power of 6,000W. If it runs on propane, it has a rated power of 4750 watts and a starting power of 5500 watts. The inverter generator has both a simple pull-start system and a simple, elegant electric starter (battery included). It has a noise level of 63 dBA (a little louder than background music). The GM6000iED can also be started from a distance for added convenience (key fob included). With a fuel capacity of 3.8 gallons, the GM6000iED can run for about 8.5 hours at 50% load on gasoline (fuel consumption is approximately 0.45 GPH). If you use propane instead, it can run for about 7.9 hours (estimated based on a 20-lb tank; 0.59 GPH of propane is used per hour). The GM6000iED makes a clean sine wave with a Total Harmonic Distortion of less than 5%, so it’s safe to plug sensitive electronics into AC outlets (THD).
Outlets
There are 3 AC outlets on the control panel: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI outlet and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet. It also has 2 DC outlets: there are two 5V USB ports (USB-A) that make it easy to charge devices like cell phones and tablets. The GM6000iED is ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. If the power goes out, you can easily connect it to a breaker box and keep your home running.
Features
The GM6000iED’s control panel has a digital data center that tells you things like the voltage, frequency, power output, fuel level, and lifetime run hours. This helps you keep track of its activity and status. In addition to this information, the generator has a number of lights that tell you when the oil level is too low, when the generator is ready, and when it is overloaded. For safety, the generator has an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, so you can use it without worrying. It also has the CO DETECT technology from Genmax, which checks the amount of carbon monoxide in the air while the generator is running. If the generator isn’t set up right and carbon monoxide levels get too high, the generator will turn off by itself. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The Genmax GM6000iED comes with a tool kit, propane hose, funnel, and key fob, as well as basic paperwork and an owner’s manual that will help you start the generator right away.
Mobility
The encased inverter generator design of the Genmax GM6000iED (L24 x W18.5 x H21.1 in) makes it look better than any ordinary open frame product. The design fits with what’s popular now and is perfect for generating power for fun. The generator is technically “portable” because it can be moved, but at 117.9 lbs., it may be hard to move it by hand. Still, because it has two wheels that are 5.5 “Once the generator is on the ground, it is easy to move thanks to its wheels and telescoping handle, which make up for its lack of maneuverability.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Chongqing Dinking Power Machinery Co. recently registered the brand GENMAX for portable generators. LTD., a company based in Chongqing, China that was established in 2010.
