Description
The Firman T04073 has 120/240V and can run on gasoline, propane, or natural gas thanks to a technology called “tri-fuel.” It has a running wattage of 4,000W and a peak wattage of 5,000W when it is powered by gasoline. When it is powered by propane, it has a rated power of 3600 watts and a peak power of 4500 watts. It runs on natural gas and has a rated wattage of 3,200W and a starting wattage of 4,00W. The generator has both a traditional pull-start and a simple, elegant electric starter (battery included). It has a noise level of 67 dBA (quieter than a regular conversation). The T04073, which can hold 5 gallons of gas, can run for about 14 hours at 0.5 load with a full tank (fuel consumption is approximately 0.36 GPH). It can run for about 9 hours if propane is used (on a 20 lbs tank – propane consumption around 0.52 GPH). Since the T04073 has a THD of about 14%, it shouldn’t be used to power electronics that are sensitive to noise.
Outlets
The following 4 AC outlets are on the control panel: Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI; 120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle; 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle. Even though this Firman generator isn’t quite RV Ready, an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter makes it easy to connect it to an RV (included). The T04073 also has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, which makes it ready for a transfer switch. You can easily connect it to your breaker box to power your home when the power goes out.
Features
The T04073’s control panel has a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. This makes it easy to keep track of its status and activity. In addition to this information, the light indicator will let you know when the generator is ready to use. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in it. When it comes to safety, this product has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without any worries. The T04073 also has Firman’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown, which turns the engine off automatically when harmful levels of carbon monoxide build up around the generator or when a CO Alert fault happens. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. Along with the basic paperwork and an owner’s manual that will help you start the generator right away, the Firman T04073 comes with a tool kit, a cover, an RV adapter, oil, a funnel, and a propane hose.
Mobility
With dimensions of L29.8 x W27.5 x H26.1 in, the Firman T04073 is a traditional, open-frame generator that is stable and can be raised above ground level. The design shown is great for the outdoors and other rough places. Even though this device is technically portable (meaning it can be moved), it can be hard to move and use without special tools because it weighs 123.4 pounds. Still, once it is on the ground, its 8-inch-diameter wheel kit and folding handle can easily solve the problem of low mobility and make it easy to move the device.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Firman Power Equipment is a business with a recent but reputable history in the power equipment sector. It was founded in 1999. The Arizona-based business provides a vast array of goods, including power tools, automotive equipment, storage items, work clothing, but its assortment of generators of different shapes, sizes, and outputs stands out above the rest. Interestingly, Firman serves as a de facto distributor of China National Machinery Industry Corporation’s goods in the US and is a fully owned subsidiary of that business.
