Description
The DuroStar DS4000S has a 208 cc (7 hp) DuroStar OHV 4-stroke engine that runs on gasoline and puts out 120V, 3,300W while running, and 4,000W at its most powerful. The generator has a noise level of 69 dBA, which is less loud than background music. It is started with a simple pull-start mechanism. With a full tank, the DS4000S can run for about 12 hours at 0.5 load, since it can hold 4 gallons of fuel (fuel consumption is approximately 0.33 GPH). Since the DS4000S has a THD of about 12%, it shouldn’t be used to power electronics that are sensitive to noise.
Outlets
The control panel has 3 AC outlets: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) receptacle, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle, and a 120V 20A (5-20R) receptacle. With an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter, this DuroStar generator’s L5-30R receptacle makes it easy to connect it to an RV. But it’s still not ready for an RV.
Features
The DS4000S’s control panel has a convenient voltmeter that you can use to quickly check power output at any moment in order to assist you in keeping track of the device’s state and activities. A light indication also lets you know when the oil level is too low in addition to providing this information. The generator’s built-in fuel gauge makes it simple, quick, and easy to detect the fuel level. You can use the product with confidence knowing that it is secure thanks to its overload protection (circuit breaker) and automatic low oil shut-off. The DuroStar DS4000S comes with a tool kit and funnel in addition to the usual paperwork and an owner’s manual , which enables you to use it right away. As a supplementary purchase, an official storage cover is additionally offered.
Mobility
The standard open frame design of the DuroStar DS4000S, which has dimensions of L23 x W18 x H17.5 in, gives the generator stability and lets it be raised above ground level. This type of design is great for tough environments and heavy outdoor use. The DS4000S’s dry weight of 94 pounds lets you take it anywhere you need to. Also, the generator’s open frame makes it easier to hold and move from one place to another. You can also buy the official wheel kit, which will make it easier to move the DS4000S.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Ontario, California-based business DuroMax, which was established in 2003, is the owner of the DuroStar name. Typically, DuroStar generators and DuroMax generators are identical, with the exception of their color schemes and the manufacturing facility. Although DuroStar engines and generators are made in China, the US is home to the design and servicing centers.
Warranty Information
The warranty for the DuroStar DS4000S lasts for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.
