Description
The Briggs & Stratton P2400 PowerSmart has a 79 cc OHV 4-stroke engine that gives off 120V, uses gasoline, and puts out 1,800W while running and 2,400W at its most powerful. Also, since it can work in parallel (but doesn’t come with a parallel kit), its power can be doubled by connecting it to a second unit that works with it. The noise level of the inverter generator is set at 62 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a normal conversation). It uses a simple, traditional pull-start mechanism to get going. With a full tank, the P2400 PowerSmart can run for up to 8 hours on its 1 gallon of fuel (fuel consumption is approximately 0.13 GPH). The P2400 PowerSmart makes a clean sine wave with a Total Harmonic Distortion of 3%, so it’s safe to plug sensitive electronics into an AC outlet (THD).
Outlets
The control panel has 2 AC outlets for the following: Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R). It also has 1 DC outlet and a 5V USB port, which makes it easy to charge devices like cell phones and tablets.
Features
The lights on the device will show if the generator is ready, if it is overloaded, or if it doesn’t have enough oil. The LED lights on the panel give you more control and make it easy to use at night. The unit has Briggs & Stratton’s Quiet Power Technology (QPTTM), which makes it much quieter, uses less fuel, and puts out less pollution. When the switch on the control panel is turned ON, the engine speed goes up when electrical loads are added and down when they are taken away. When it comes to safety, this product has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without any worries. Briggs & Stratton’s CO GuardTM carbon monoxide shutdown also works well with the P2400 PowerSmart. This new patent-pending technology uses complex algorithms to turn off the generator when dangerous levels of carbon monoxide build up in the area where the generator works. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. Briggs & Stratton sent some oil with the P2400 PowerSmart along with the usual paperwork and owner’s manual to get you up and running quickly.
Mobility
Since the Briggs & Stratton P2400 PowerSmart is an inverter generator, its enclosed design (L20 x W12 x H17 in) looks better than a traditional open frame product. The design fits with what’s popular now and is perfect for generating power for fun. The P2400 PowerSmart weighs 51 pounds when it is empty, so you can use its power anywhere you need it. It also has a handy double handle that is built into the case. This makes it easier to carry the P2400 PowerSmart from place to place.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
