Description
The Westinghouse WGen12000DFc is powerful and flexible, thanks to its dual-fuel technology that lets it run on both 120V and 240V. It has a running wattage of 12,000W and a peak wattage of 15,000W when it is powered by gasoline. When run on propane, it has a rated power of 10800 watts and a peak power of 13500 watts. The generator has a noise level of 74 dBA, which is just a little louder than a dishwasher. It is started with a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). The WGen12000DFc can also be started from a distance, which makes it even more convenient (key fob included). With a fuel capacity of 10.5, the WGen12000DFc can run for about 11 hours at 0.5 load on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption is approximately 0.95 GPH). With propane, it can last up to about 7 hours (on a 20 lbs tank – propane consumption around 0.67 GPH). As the WGen12000DFc makes a clean sine wave with a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 5%, you can safely plug sensitive electronics into the AC outlets.
Outlets
Two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplexes, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle, a 120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle, and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle are all on the control panel. It also has 2 DC outlets: two 5V USB ports (USB-A) that make it easy to charge devices like phones or tablets. Even though this Westinghouse generator isn’t quite RV Ready, an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter makes it easy to hook it up to an RV. The WGen12000DFc is also ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. It is easy to connect to a breaker box and can power your home if the power goes out.
Features
The WGen12000DFc’s control panel has a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours so you can keep an eye on its status and activity. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in it. For safety, the generator has an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, so you can use it without worrying. It also has a sensor for carbon monoxide. This sensor is meant to measure the amount of carbon monoxide in the air while the generator is running. If the generator isn’t set up right and carbon monoxide levels get too high, the generator will turn off by itself. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The Westinghouse WGen12000DFc comes with the usual paperwork and an owner’s manual , which lets you start it right away. It also comes with a funnel, oil, battery charger, propane hose, tool kit, and key fob.
Mobility
The Westinghouse WGen12000DFc is 34 inches long, 31 inches wide, and 35 inches high. Together with its traditional, open-frame design, they support the generator and allow it to be raised above the ground. The generator is built to work well outside and in rough places. Even though the generator is technically considered to “be portable,” it will be very hard to move it by hand because it weighs 352 pounds (in the sense that it is movable). Once it is on the ground, it can still be moved easily with the help of its wheels and folding handle. A lift hook on the top of the frame adds another layer of safety and makes it easier to move, load, and unload the generator.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a part of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, which was founded in 1886 and is based in the US. Even though the company was bought by American CBS and merged with it, the Westinghouse name is still used for many of their electrical products, from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators are the main product of Westinghouse’s Outdoor Power Equipment branch. These generators used to be made by Westpro Power Systems, but Midwest Equipment bought it in 2016. Under the Westinghouse brand name, you can also buy lawn tools like trimmers and blowers. Every one of their products is made in the US. Several sources, though, say that most of the time they are made in China.
