Description
The DuroStar DS12000EH’s dual-fuel technology lets it put out 120/240V and gives it a lot of power and flexibility. If the device is powered by gasoline, it has a running power of 9,500W and a starting power of 12,000W. If it runs on propane, it has a rated power of 8750 watts and a starting power of 10500 watts. The generator has both a pull-start mechanism and an electric starter that is easy to use and convenient (battery included). It has a noise level of 74 dBA (A tad noisier than a vacuum cleaner). With a full tank of gas and an 8.3-gallon fuel capacity, the DS12000EH can run for about 8 hours at 0.5 load (fuel consumption is approximately 1.04 GPH). It can run for about 4 hours if propane is used (on a 20 lbs tank – propane consumption around 1.18 GPH). Since the DS12000EH has a THD of about 12%, it shouldn’t be used to power electronics that are sensitive to noise.
Outlets
The control panel has 5 AC outlets: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI outlet, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) outlet, a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet, and a 120/240V 50A (14-50R) outlet. It also has 1 DC outlet with a 12V 8A output that makes it easy to charge batteries. Even though this DuroStar generator isn’t quite RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle makes it easy to connect to an RV with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. The DS12000EH is also ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. You can connect it to a breaker box to power your home when the power goes out.
Features
The status and activity of the DS12000EH can be easily checked on the control panel, which has a voltmeter that makes it easy to check power output at any time. In addition to this information, if the oil level is too low, a light on the device will show. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to find out how much gas is in it. In terms of safety, the generator can be used without worry because it has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off when the oil level gets too low. The DuroStar DS12000EH comes with basic instructions and an owner’s manual to help you start the generator quickly. It also comes with a number of accessories, such as battery charging cables, a funnel, a tool kit, and a propane hose. You can also buy a storage cover that is made by the company.
Mobility
The DuroStar DS12000EH is 29 inches long, 30 inches wide, and 26 inches high. Together with its traditional, open-frame design, they support the generator and allow it to be raised above the ground. The design shown is great for the outdoors and other rough places. The generator is technically “portable” in the sense that it can be moved, but at 224 pounds, it may be hard to move it by hand. Once it is on the ground, it can still be moved easily with the help of its wheels and folding handle.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
DuroMax is a company that was started in 2003 and is based in Ontario, California. The DuroStar brand is one of its brands. Most DuroStar generators have a DuroMax twin, and the only difference between them is their color scheme and where they were made. The generators and engines for DuroStar are made in China, but the design and service centers are in the United States.
