Description
The Honda EM5000SX is made with a 389 cc Honda iGX390 OHV 4-stroke engine that runs on gasoline. It has an output voltage of 120/240V and a running wattage of 4,500W and a peak wattage of 5,000W. (and even up to 7,000 W thanks to the iAVR technology). The generator is meant to make 63 dBA of noise (little noisier than an office setting). It has both a traditional pull-start mechanism and a simple but elegant electric starter (battery included). To make things even easier, the EM5000SX can be started from afar (via the My Generator App ). With a full tank, the EM5000SX can run for about 10.5 hours at 0.5 load (using about 0.59 GPH of fuel). This is because it has a 6.2-gallon fuel tank. Since the THD of the EM5000SX is 10%, it is not a good idea to use it to power sensitive electronics.
Outlets
There are 6 AC outlets on the control panel: two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplexes, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle, and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle. It also has one DC outlet with a 12V 8A output that makes it easy to charge your batteries. With an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter, this Honda generator’s L5-30R receptacle makes it easy to connect to an RV. But it’s still not ready for an RV. The EM5000SX is also ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. You can connect it to a breaker box to power your home when the power goes out.
Features
The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it easy to see at a glance how much gas is in the tank. As for safety features, the device has an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off (Oil Alert®), so you can use it without worrying. Aside from the features we’ve already talked about, the Honda EM5000SX also comes with the basic paperwork and an owner’s manual, so you can start using it right away. You can buy a storage cover from the company separately.
Mobility
The Honda EM5000SX is made with a typical open frame that measures L41.1 x W27.8 x H28.3 in, This gives it support and stability and gives you the option of raising it above the ground. The design works well in rough places and for hard outdoor use. Even though this device is technically portable (meaning it can be moved), it can be hard to move and use without special tools because it weighs 226.4 pounds. But its wheel kit and folding handle make it easy to move once it’s on the ground, which makes up for its lack of maneuverability.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Japanese Honda Motor Company, founded in 1948, has built a reputation for regularly delivering high-quality engines, motorized vehicles, and equipment. The business has built a solid name over the years in the power tool, motorbike, and vehicle industries. Since 1953, Honda’s power tool division has been manufacturing various power tools, such as tillers, mowers, blowers, sprayers, and of course, generators. Honda is still regarded as a legend among generator manufacturers even after the firm went worldwide and shifted the majority of its production from Japan to other Asian nations.
Warranty Information
There is a warranty on the Honda EM5000SX for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts. Honda’s warranty policies can tell you more about how long the warranty on a Honda generator lasts.
