Description
The 389 cc Honda iGX390 OHV 4-stroke engine in the Honda EB5000X runs on gasoline and can put out 120/240V. It has a running power of 4,500W and a maximum power of 5,000W. (and even up to 7,000 W thanks to the iAVR technology). The generator is meant to make 63 dBA of noise (little noisier than an office setting). It has a pull-start mechanism, which is a common way to start a motor. With a fuel capacity of 6.2 gallons, the EB5000X can run at 0.5 load for about 10.5 hours on a full tank (fuel consumption is approximately 0.59 GPH). Since the THD of the EB5000X is 10%, it is not recommended to use it to power sensitive electronics.
Outlets
The full GFCI control panel has 6 AC outlets: two 120V 20A (5-20R) duplex outlets, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) outlet, and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet. With an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter, this Honda generator’s L5-30R receptacle makes it easy to connect to an RV. But it’s still not ready for an RV. The EB5000X is also ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. You can connect it to a breaker box to power your home when the power goes out.
Features
A built-in fuel gauge makes it easy and quick to check how much gas is in the generator. As far as safety goes, you can use the generator without worry because it has an automatic shut-off for low oil (Oil Alert®) and an overload protection (circuit breaker). In addition to the features we’ve already talked about, the Honda EB5000X comes with standard paperwork and an owner’s manual to help you get started right away. You can buy a storage cover from the company separately.
Mobility
The Honda EB5000X has a traditional, open frame that measures L41.1 x W27.8 x H30.4 in, This frame gives it support and lets it be lifted off the ground. This type of design is great for tough environments and heavy outdoor use. Even though this device is technically portable (meaning it can be moved), it can be hard to move and use without special tools because it weighs 210.8 pounds. But its wheel kit and folding handle make it easy to move once it’s on the ground, which makes up for its lack of maneuverability. A lift hook on the top of the frame adds another layer of safety and makes it easier to move, load, and unload the generator.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Japanese Honda Motor Company, founded in 1948, has built a reputation for regularly delivering high-quality engines, motorized vehicles, and equipment. The business has built a solid name over the years in the power tool, motorbike, and vehicle industries. Since 1953, Honda’s power tool division has been manufacturing various power tools, such as tillers, mowers, blowers, sprayers, and of course, generators. Honda is still regarded as a legend among generator manufacturers even after the firm went worldwide and shifted the majority of its production from Japan to other Asian nations.
Warranty Information
There is a warranty on the Honda EB5000X for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts. Honda’s warranty policies can tell you more about how long the warranty on a Honda generator lasts.
